Vacuum grippers function by connecting one or more suction cups to a vacuum generator or pump. When the vacuum is activated, air is evacuated from the space between the suction cup and the workpiece surface, creating a pressure differential that pulls the object toward the cup and holds it securely.
There are two main types of vacuum generation methods:
Venturi-based vacuum generators – Use compressed air to create suction through the Venturi effect (commonly used for lightweight, fast operations).
Vacuum pumps – Electrically driven pumps that provide continuous vacuum flow for heavy-duty or multi-cup systems.
The grip is released by venting air into the suction cup, equalizing pressure and allowing the part to be dropped or placed precisely.
Non-damaging grip – Ideal for delicate or polished materials like sheet metal, glass, or coated parts.
Fast and flexible operation – Suitable for high-speed automation and variable object shapes.
Lightweight construction – Minimizes load on robotic arms and actuators.
Easy maintenance and integration – Simple structure with few moving parts.
Customizable suction configurations – Can include multiple cups and adjustable mounts.
Sheet metal handling – Transferring steel or aluminum sheets between press stages.
Automotive manufacturing – Moving body panels, doors, and roof components.
Electronics assembly – Handling glass panels, circuit boards, or casings.
Packaging and logistics – Picking boxes, bags, and flat packages.
Aerospace and composites – Lifting lightweight panels and molded structures.
